Sheet weight calculator
An 18 mm sheet of MDF weighs about 40 kg. Knowing the weight before delivery decides the van, the number of people carrying, whether the sheets go up the stairs, and how strong the fixings must be.

Why the weight matters
Delivery
A van’s payload fills fast: ten 18 mm MDF sheets are about 400 kg.
Handling
Large sheets are awkward as well as heavy; plan two-person lifts.
Fixings
Wall cabinets and shelves carry their own weight before any load goes on.
Other sheet sizes
Large formats save joins and sometimes a whole sheet, but they are heavy and awkward. An Egger board is over 2 m wide: it needs two people, a clear route and somewhere flat to lay it.

Handy for fixings and for anything hung on a wall: multiply by the area of the panel. A 600 × 720 mm wall-unit side in 18 mm MDF is about 5.7 kg before anything is put on its shelves.
Why suppliers’ figures differ
Density varies between products and even between thicknesses of the same product: thin MDF is often denser than thick. Moisture-resistant grades, lightweight boards and different glues change it too. The calculator uses typical densities; use the supplier’s data sheet when the exact figure matters.

How much does an 18 mm sheet of MDF weigh?
About 40 kg for a 2440 × 1220 mm sheet at a typical 740 kg/m³. Lightweight MDF can be well under that.
Is plywood lighter than MDF?
Usually. Birch plywood is a little lighter than MDF; softwood and poplar plywood much lighter.
How heavy is an Egger board?
A 2800 × 2070 mm sheet has almost twice the area of an 8x4, so an 18 mm MFC board is around 68 kg.
